It’s weird that I’m willing to spend almost $2,000 on a camera body and then look at a $500 lens and be like:

Nah, this is too expensive.

This attitude, however, changes if the lens is red (or frankly, any color that is not black).

So I bought a red lens.

It’s only $379.

And it’s beautiful.

Look at that subtle off-white coloring…

.. the tasteful square hood…

… oh my god, it even has an aperture ring on it…

Fetish aside, the image quality is actually surprisingly good; auto focus is fast, silent, and accurate (apparently more affected by the body, you’ll get better speed on the XTs compared to the XPros); and the colors equally charming (although, how important is color when you are using a Fuji?).

With some dedication, I even got a dedicated red color scheme just for this lens:
